Students at Philip Green Memorial School have moderate to severe learning difficulties and speech and language disorders. Most have a statement of educational need reflecting this.
Applications for admissions usually come from either a Local Education Authority or Social Services Department. Parents sometimes make private direct application but have usually discussed such an approach with their LEA advisor first.
Occasionally parents are going forward to the SENDIST Tribunal Hearings and need to have an informal visit and offer of a place for this purpose.
Once parents have visited and believe that we are an appropriate placement, we invite the student for a taster visit. This is usually from lunch on a Thursday to tea time on Saturday, allowing a reasonable introduction. After this visit the school will/will not offer a place dependent on the taster period's success.
The key to any placement here is obviously that both parents and student judge Philip Green to be the right place.
